Oh, this is one of the most exciting days of the year! Of all the colors in the spectrum, Pantone has chosen Emerald 17-5641 as its 2013 Color of the Year.
“Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty
that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”
Sounds nice, looks nice. But who is Pantone and what does this mean to you? It benefits Pantone to get all of us designers excited about the CotY. The company provides a color matching system for design industries, so we’re all on the same page as to what color Emerald Green is, exactly. Since they are on the leading edge of color, you could argue that this is the direction the design world will head, and they will try to convince you of that. However, I’m not sure they’ve always been 100% accurate. Check out the last six years and decide for yourself:
Turquoise has been hot for the last few years, and Tangerine Tango is starting to pop up now. I just purchased a knit sweater that is that exact color of orange. Over the next three or so years, we’ll see how often we see this delicious emerald green. Here’s the link to their official announcement »
